Chemistry is the scientific study of interaction of chemical substances that are constituted of atoms or the subatomic particles: protons, electrons and neutrons. Atoms combine to produce molecules or crystals. Chemistry is often called "the central science" because it connects the other natural sciences such as astronomy, physics, material science, biology, and geology.

The transformations that are studied in chemistry are a result of interaction either between different chemical substances or between matter and energy. Traditional chemistry involves study of interactions between substances in a chemistry laboratory using various forms of laboratory glassware.

Department seeks to provide a basic understanding of chemistry and the scientific method that will enable them to evaluate critically and make informed decisions on issues relating to science, technology, and society.

Department of Microbiology

The department of Microbiology was established in the year 2003 with the postgraduate programme and in 2004 with the undergraduate course. The research programme comprises M.Phil and Ph.D which was started in the year 2005 and 2007 respectively. The department has a strong link with the Kovai Medical Center and Hospital and other institutions of the trust where there are a number of ongoing research projects. Department of Nutrition & Dietetics

The Department of Nutrition and Dietetics was started in the year 2003 offering the course B. Sc. in Food Science and Nutrition with well - equipped laboratories. Post Graduate course in Food and Nutrition was started in the year 2004. The department also extends the activities of research by offering Master of Philosophy in Food and Nutrition from the year 2005 and Doctorate of Philosophy from the year 2016 onwards. Department of Information Technology

Information Technology is the study of the theoretical foundations of information and computation and their implementation and application in computer systems. Information Technology had many sub-fields; some emphasize the computation of specific results such as computer graphics, while others relate to properties of computational problems such as computational complexity theory.

Still others focus on the challenges in implementing computation. For example, programming language theory studies to describe computations, while other programming applies specific programming languages to solve specific computational problems. A further sub-field, human computer interaction, focuses on the challenges in making computers and computations useful, usable, and universally accessible to people.

Department of Commerce

The Department of commerce was established in October 1997 with 15 Students for the total intake of 40. In the year 1999 the intake of the department was increased to 50 and further increment 60 was made in the year 2006. The department has got permanent affiliation from Bharathiar University during the year 2000.

Under the Roof of Commerce department, the Commerce with Computer Application Course was introduced in the year 2000. Subsequently, M.Com CA was also introduced in the year 2002. The Department of commerce CA was separately bifricated from our commerce Department in the year 2005-06.

Subsequently, the Department of commerce introduced the PG Degree in the year 2006 with the total intake of 30 students. University granted the status of permanent affiliation to the PG Course on 2008.

The Department was converted to the Research Department status in the year 2003-04 with the intake of 16(6-Ft & 10 Pt) Students.

In the year 2012, the Department of commerce has introduced additional section for B.Com Degree Course. The intake of the Department was increased from 61 students to 111 students. University granted the status of permanent affiliation for additional section for UG Degree Course. In the year 2013, the intake of the Department was increased by 119 students. In the academic year 2014, the intake of the Department was increased by 120 students.

At present, the Department is effectively functioning with 13 staff members and 371 students.

Commerce with Computer Applications course offers a program of study to meet the significant increase in demand for Computer Scientists with an accounting background.
